This delicious and soothing Flu Fighter recipe comes to us by way of our Brodo broth shops in NYC. We serve this add-in steadily throughout the fall and winter because it’s delicious, but we always notice a spike in demand when a bug is wreaking havoc on our city.
Part of our philosophy is to eat healthy foods to prevent yourself from getting sick. Sipping a daily bone broth, eating a diet rich in whole foods, and drinking plenty of water can go a long way. However sometimes a particularly contagious strain of the flu makes its way from the daycare to your kids and you need a little extra protection! All the ingredients in this recipe have strong healing properties. Ginger can help soothe a sore throat, turmeric can fight inflammation and boost circulation, peppercorns unlock the benefits of ginger and turmeric, and oregano has antiviral properties. And of course bone broth boasts a whole host of benefits for when you’re sick – it keeps you hydrated, it’s loaded with nutrients, it helps you sleep, and helps soothe cold and flu symptoms.
Chef Marco Canora, our owner and founder, has always believed in the notion of food as medicine. The beauty of bone broth is whether you drink it alone or loaded with whole food ingredients, it is packed with healing properties yet has the flavor of an indulgent treat.
Next time you feel your body coming down with something, make yourself a flu fighter!
